Personnel: The Peasant and the Priest

Esther Podemski Producer, Director and Co-Writer is a visual artist who produced and directed the award-winning documentary "House of the World" about the Holocaust's aftermath in Poland. This film premiered at Lincoln Center in New York. Since then, it has been screened in Europe, traveled throughout the United States with the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival, and screened at the Los Angeles International Jewish Film Festival. As a painter, Esther Podemski has exhibited nationally and is represented in public and private collections. She is a recipient of a painting fellowship from the New York State Council on the Arts and twice participated in the Yaddo residency program.

Recent exhibitions include 5 Days in July, a video installation about the Newark Riots of 1967 shown at the Aljira, A Center For Contemporary Arts in Newark. The show will travel to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and to other venues across the country. She also co-produced a radio program also titled 5 Days in July, which was broadcast on NPR across the country. The radio program consisted of a 30-minute radio drama followed by a panel discussion with scholars. The radio program can be heard on PRX.

Kate Barkume, Associate Producer and Assistant Editor, is a graduate from Sarah Lawrence College (2004), where she studied International Relations and Social Justice. She has lived and studied abroad in Germany, France and Switzerland. Currently, she freelances in post-production in New York City.

Federico Marsicano, Cinematographer, currently lives in Rome and has been an important collaborator in the project. Mr. Marsicano is an experienced and innovative cinematographer who has worked for Italian television (RAI and Arabian Television), and has served as director of photography on numerous feature films and documentaries in America.

John Campbell, Cinematographer, as director of Photography in numerous features, documentaries and commercial film, Campbell's work is impressive. In 1987 he received the Lost Angeles Film Critics Award for his technical innovations in Mala Noche. In 1991 he was Director of Photography for the feature film My Own Private Idaho. He has served as Director of Photography on many feature films including: Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, by Gus Van Sant; The New Age, by Michael Tolkin; and Partners, by Peter Weller. Recently he worked on two films that were nominated for Academy Awards: The Duke of Group, by Griffin Dunne, and Rough Magic, by Claire Peploe.

Dan Lawren, Co-Editor, has been an editor for Consuelo Mack Wealthtrack, the financial news program for PBS. He edited a feature length documentary on HIV called Urban Youth/HIV Project by social activist Tchaiko Omawale, and a documentary about mix-tape DJs. He also worked on public service announcements for Citizen Change Voter Registration Campaigns. Further experience includes editing a financial news program for PBS television. Dan Lawren is also an educator and worked with the Harlem Children�s Zone. He is fluent in Spanish with a working knowledge of Italian.

Gregory Loser, Co-Editor and Animator, was the Co-Editor for the documentary film Moving Midway that screened in competition at The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in North Carolina and as part of the New Directors/New Films festival in New York City. He wrote, directed, edited and co-produced End of The Season, which screened in festivals, including the Woods Hole Film Festival. He began his career as a broadcast producer of television commercials. He is also the editor of a new documentary, currently in production, entitled Lucy Daniels: In Her Own Voice.

Andrea Carlisle, Script Developer and Writer, is an editor and published author. She was the Co-Writer and Co-Director for Looking Up, a video program on disability. She has published a book of fiction, The Riverhouse Stories, as well as short stories, poems, and essays in various literary journals. Her poem, "Emily Dickinson's To-Do List," has appeared in three anthologies, most recently in Visiting Emily: Poems Inspired by the Life and Work of Emily Dickinson. Her writing has won literary fellowships and awards.
